About The Athletic Image
I love to make photographs. It can't be stated any simpler.
My background and interest in graphic design and photography goes back to high school - and we won't even go into just how long ago that's been!
My serious photography started as a scenic and travel photographer while living and working in Alexandria, Egypt in the early and mid '80's. That was a great time - roaming around Egypt and the Mediterranean photographing the historical; the ancient; and the modern. I didn't go to Egypt strictly for the photography, but I certainly didn't waste the opportunity, either! I was in Egypt anyway, working for an Atlanta-based engineering consulting firm, teaching engineering graphics to the Egyptians.
All of that early stuff was film-based. Things have changed .... I have been using digital exclusively since 2001 and I am convinced of its benefits to both the photographer and the client. Photographers can produce better quality and have more options to create new and exciting images while the client can enjoy those same advancements and faster production. We all win.
My jump into sports photography was a direct result of having kids - kids that played sports. And sports photography has turned out to be my real passion. Now I photograph lots of people playing sports - not just my kids!
My work has appeared in Sports Illustrated, The Sporting News, The Marietta Daily Journal, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Denver Post, the Savannah Morning News, the Chattanooga Times Free Press, the Asheville Citizen-Times, The Citizen, Georgia Sports Monthly, Dawg Nation magazine, Masters Athlete, Inside Lacrosse magazine, Lacrosse magazine, MCLA-The Lax Mag and various other publications and magazines.
